Dark Sunday chill seeps into the room

I cannot believe how difficult a time I've had trying to get a comments link placed on this Blog template. I'm doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what it is. Grrrrr! Frustrating!

Well, it's a tight game between the Eagles and the Panthers right now but it looks as though the Panthers have things well in hand. I would not be surprised if they take it all.

Man, it's getting harder and harder to feel like living is fun. I guess getting old presents one with new issues and those issues present one with difficult choices.

Sorry, that was obscure. Didn't mean to be vague, but my mind is a bit fuzzy at the moment so I'll plead temporary unconsciousness.

Back is hurting so I'm going to sign off for now. More TK.

New England Patriots win the AFC 24-14

The Pats are on their way to Super Bowl 38 after burying Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. Kind of surprise to me because I thought that Manning was so precise and unflappable in the last two wins to get to this game today that he and his teammates would be unbeatable. But, of course, there is the fact that the Colts gave up double-digit points in their last game, leaving it up to the offense to get the job done. But in the frigid, snowy weather of New England the Colts folded.

C'est la guerre.

And now it's time to find out which NFC team will face the Pats at the Super Bowl. Will it be the Eagles (not likely) or the Panthers (just as unlikely). In fact, the Eagles-Panthers game could be the wildest game of the day. Both teams have a way of screwing up at just the wrong moment, and both, given the opportunity, find a way to lose.

But I don't really care much who goes to the Super Bowl this year. I haven't watched a complete game of pro football all season! And since neither the 49ers or the Raiders are in the hunt, my interest is minimum at best.

So, not to waste yours or my time, I'll simply say, have a great day. May your team win. Keep on breathing, keep on moving, keep on growing.

Ho, Ho, Ho-hum hum. I'm bummed! Yea, that's right! I'm bummed out because my girlfriend D is having surgery tomorrow and it's my last vacation day before returning to work and I'll be spending it running back and forth between a SurgiCenter and pharmacies and trying to add some emotional support for her, despite the fact that I'm completely, emotionally drained.

Man, life's sometimes a huge pain the ass! But what are the alternatives, I ask you? Lay down and die? I don't think so.

No, I'll press ahead and do my best to conjure up the energy required to get this thing done. I'm not ready to bail on her just yet - not that I think I'll be bailing anytime in the near future but who knows what tomorrow and tomorrow may bring? I certainly don't!

So "24" is really weird this season, with its twists and turns and obfuscations and confusing story line, it just seems to me that the drama has fallen off - lost its edge, ya know.

I've got to get myself psyched up to return to work after 12 days of sleeping late and lazing about. I'm just not ready to go back to the grind, but we do what we must, eh? I got this depressing memo from the Social Security Administration last week that showed me what I can expect to receive upon retirement at age 65 or age 75. Either way, I'll starve on what the monthly payment will be so it appears I'll have to work until I drop if I hope to survive till my time comes. C'est la vie. Welcome to the kinder, gentler America.

Escape on the Internet can be fulfilling!

Yes, spending hours surfing the Net can be an eye-opening, stimulating experience. However, it also can become a rut! So be careful out there if you know what's good for you.

I've had an uneventful passing from 2003 to 2004 - a veritable 'ho-hum' fest, if you get my drift. I even remembered to fill in the correct year when writing a check last night so even the typical challenge of catching up with the turn of the calendar has been lackluster. In fact, I can honestly say that my vacation has been lackluster, all in all. With Debbi down with a bad case of tooth pain it's been a drag because we haven't been able to go out together, except for the family (hers) get-together for Christmas celebrating.

Shit! Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed much of my escape from the day-to-day drudgery of copy editing but I know that it will soon end and I'll be back in the newsroom wrestling with ad changes, long-winded copy and vague leads. Ugh!

I'm thinking of going to a movie - perhaps "Cold Mountain" - since the TV is offering sparse fare this evening, typical of most Friday nights, and Debbi is not coming out tonight. She advised me to go ahead and see a flick, so long as it isn't "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King." That's because we've promised one another to see that one together. We have, to say the least, an unorthodox relationship that, I think, most people would view as weird. But it works for us.

Well, I'm wasting time here so I better get my act together and get ready if I'm to make the next movie. Adios for now. Hope you're having a better time than me (poor baby, awwwww ...).
